Turkey Yuk Sung Lettuce Wraps


Savory Chinese lettuce wraps with ground lean turkey are a flavorful, fast and healthy meal made all in one pot!!! Turkey and fresh vegetables fill each Lettuce wrap. It’s a total winner for a weekday go-to recipe for us because it’s got everything you could want, healthy, quick, easy with a flavour BANG that will make your taste buds rejoice!!!


After ordering these lettuce wraps far too many times at restaurants in all different ways, beef, chicken and pork being the most popular and tastiest. I knew that I needed to recreate a similar flavorful recipe at home. So here it is, you’ve been warned that they are pretty darn addictive and in the best way possible!!!

Asian cooking is fun and one of my favourites I’m sure you can tell by now if you follow my Instagram. This is mainly because there are so many ingredients you can play with to make your seasonings and sauces spectacular. If you haven’t tried your own Asian sauce before, now is the time! Don’t be shy, once you have the ingredients in your kitchen,  you’ll be inspired to make even more Chinese dishes.


The fun part about this dish is building your own lettuce wraps. Filling each cup with the savory meat of choice and topping it with sliced green onions, chillis and more sauce,  drool city! I can seriously take down at least four to five of these wraps myself. If you need a little more carbs for your meal, brown rice or noodles is my other go-to, you know, to keep the healthy theme going or a portion of my favourite Garlic & Ginger Broccoli and you can wear your halo 😇 for the week!!!


Ingredients

  • Fry lite low cal spray

  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil

  • 4 cloves garlic, minced

  • ½ yellow pepper, diced

  • 2 teaspoons ginger, minced

  • 1 red and 1 green chilli or or 1 teaspoon dried chilli flakes (your own heat)

  • ½ cup water chestnuts, finely chopped

  • ½ cup bamboo shoots, finely chopped

  • 1 cup mushrooms, chopped

  • 1 cup carrots, finely diced

  • 1 cup Celery, finely chopped

  • 400g fresh ground lean turkey

  • 2 Tbsp light soy sauce

  • 2 Tbsp dark soy sauce

  • 2 Tbsp Oyster sauce

  • 1 Tsp Rice wine Vinegar

  • 1 Tsp Chinese 5 spice


Toppings:

  • Crumbled prawn crackers or Chopped spring onion are lovely  for garnish (optional)

Serve with :

  • 1 head butter leaf lettuce, separated, washed and dried


Instructions:

  • Heat a wok or large sauté pan over high heat.

  • Add Low cal oil and 1 teaspoon sesame oil and heat until hot.

  • Add garlic and mushrooms and Stir-fry for 2 minutes.

  • Add the water chestnuts, bamboo shoots, Chillis, yellow peppers, diced carrots & celery along with the ginger and stir-fry for 4 minutes.

  • Then add the ground turkey. Stir-fry until the meat is no longer pink, about 4 minutes.

  • Add in all the sauces , and then stir to combine altogether.

  • Wash and dry your lettuce leaves and then spoon your yummy turkey mince into the leaves and Enjoy!!!


It really is a delicious satisfying dish and its So tasty as a midweek meal. We really treat ourselves with this at the weekends by adding tasty pork mince and especially Irish Mallons Sausage mince takes it to another level of tasty!!!
